Bike Frames

Bike frames are the main support structure for any bicycle. The steering assembly, including handlebars and forks, are attached to the front and the means of propulsion, pedals and gears, are attached at the bottom and back, respectively. Much like the frame of a car or truck, everything is dependent on this structure.

Most bike frames are made from metal, aluminum or steel depending on the style and cost of the bicycle. Steel frames are primarily used on less expensive bikes, where performance and weight issues aren’t important. Aluminum, as well as other light metals such as titanium, are most often used on race and other high performance bicycles.

Not all bike frames are made from metal. The most expensive and high-tech road bikes are often made with carbon fiber frames, making them extremely lightweight. However, for the average rider, these frames tend to make the bicycles much too costly.
