Bike Pedals

Bike pedals have come a long way over the last few decades. No longer just a flat surface to put your feet on, today’s pedals come in a staggering array of designs. Depending on what type of riding you do, you’ll probably be faced with several options.

Road riders have for decades used toe clips to help increase their pedaling efficiency. However, the invention of clipless pedals has changed all of that. These pedals clip into the bottom of specialized shoes rather than wrap around the top of the foot, making them much easier to disconnect from in the event of a fall.

While clipless bike pedals are available for mountain bikes, many people still prefer to use toe clips; but this is largely a matter of opinion. With pedals for mountain bikes, durability is the key as these tend to take much more abuse than those for the average road bike. Most people recommend trying several styles before settling on one particular set.
