Bike Wheels
Bike wheels vary in their design, depending on the style of bicycle. Road bikes, mountain bikes, and BMX bikes all require different wheels. And each of these categories has many sub-categories as well.
Road bike wheels have larger diameters, but are much thinner. Many high end wheel sets are made from carbon fiber materials, making them feather light, yet exceptionally strong. These wheels are also quite expensive, often running into the thousands of dollars.
Mountain bike wheels are designed to be extremely durable, due to the rigors that off road riding. Most of these wheels are made from some form of metal, but there are carbon fiber versions as well. Since mountain bikes often utilize disc brakes, many of today’s wheels are not meant to be used with rim brakes.
