Hybrid Bike

A hybrid bike is a bicycle that is designed primarily for city riding. They generally incorporate design features from both road bikes and mountain bikes. It is important to keep in mind that there are different types of hybrids on the market.

A cross bike (a variation of hybrid bike) uses a road bike frame with the typical straight handlebars seen on many mountain bikes. The wheels that are used are closer to those found on a road bike, but are slightly wider to improve stability over more urban street conditions. The tires usually contain a moderate amount of tread, but the tread is not nearly as aggressive as on mountain bikes.

Some hybrid bikes are built primarily for comfort. These are basically updated versions of the old style beach cruisers of decades past. These often use suspension systems and a much larger padded seat.
